What's up, party people? It's time to get groovy with today's list of Vpop remixes and EDM songs.
Singer Hương Tràm, who is popular for her ballads, decided to team up with producer DJ Slim V to release an EDM song at the end of 2017. As a fan of EDM, I think it's cool to see more EDM songs in the Vietnamese mainstream. The official I Want You Now MV version, however, wasn't my cup of tea. The big room festival house beat used there just didn't fit with Hương Tràm's singing style. I prefer the above deep house version of I Want You Now, which is kind of weird for me since I generally like big room house songs more than I like deep house songs.
When Là Con Gái Phải Xinh by Bảo Thy first came out, I didn't like it that much. But for some reason, I really like this slowed down live acoustic version of Là Con Gái Phải Xinh. Generally, I prefer my songs to be more uptempo, and I am constantly saying that Vpop needs to be more upbeat and dance friendly. I guess this is one of those rare instances where the opposite is true.
Teen idol Chi Pu made her debut as a Vpop singer last year at the end of 2017. The subject of Chi Pu has been a tough one for me. I want to bring people the latest and most exciting Vpop news possible, but I also want to be 100% honest about how I feel. Although Chi Pu has been a hot Vpop topic in recent months, I personally have avoided talking about Chi Pu because I find no enjoyment in listening to her sing. Ideally, I would much rather have someone else cover Chi Pu related news on this site. If you're interested, let me know.
That being said, I do find Từ Hôm Nay (Feel Like Ooh) to be an extremely catchy song. It has been a very popular cover song for Vietnamese citizens. Every time I hear someone sing it that is not named Chi Pu, I think to myself, "Why can't Chi Pu make this song sound this good?". This then causes me to question if I'm just a Chi Pu hater or not. Anyways, Slim V redeemed himself from his previous poor Hương Tràm EDM collaboration with this Trọng Hiếu reimagined cover of Từ Hôm Nay (Feel Like Ooh). Like Borat would say, it's very nice.
To celebrate the end of 2017, DJ/producer Hoaprox released this 20+ Vpop hits mega mashup. The mixing in this mashup isn't the cleanest, but it definitely is a treat to listen to for any Vpop fan. So many hits jam packed into 6 minutes...it's great!
I usually try to highlight some of the work of lesser known artists in my Mix It Up Mondays series. Recently, I haven't had the time to keep it going. Hopefully, I can revive it in the near future. Until then, here's a song by underground producer Mons.
