Once again Vpop artist Hoàng Thuỳ Linh has taken inspiration from ancient Vietnamese folklore to create a contemporary Vpop song that I can only describe as a true work of art. Tứ Phủ is HTL's latest song and MV. It follows a similar thematic and design pattern to some of HTL's recent works like Bánh Trôi Nước. Again, HTL managed to create an epic bass heavy EDM pop song with a strong Vietnamese folk flavor by working with producer Triple-D and utilizing lyrics lifted from Vietnamese poetry.

Not many Vietnamese artists are using the strategy of combining Vietnamese poetry and folk elements with modern pop and electronic sounds. In fact, HTL may be the only Vpop artist that is currently doing just that. Personally, it is a sound that I really enjoy and find truly unique. Where else will you find a "rap" verse that sounds like a Vietnamese pray being chanted? The artistry and inventiveness shown here by HTL and company is what I find most fascinating about Vpop. What is Vpop? It is whatever you want it to be. There's no defined/refined sound (unlike Kpop or Jpop) since Vpop is so new and still evolving.
